My website emails form data with attachments to me. Is there a recommended file-size limit we should notify readers about?

If your website accepts file attachments via a form from a reader who may be requesting a quote from a buyer's guide company listed on your site or similar functionality, a common question is how big is too big?

We recommend 1MB (megabyte) or smaller.

As a rule, we recommend you provide directions on that form for people uploading a file to keep their uploaded attachments to one (1) MB or less.

We don't prevent them from uploading something bigger. But their intended recipient's email program or company may prevent them from even seeing any email with attachments larger than that.
