How do I set up a subscription renewal notification pop-up?
General Availability Planned for March 24th, 2025.
Continuum provides the capability to configure and display pop-up messages to logged-in users whose subscriptions are nearing expiration. This feature, available for all subscription products, allows for customization of messaging, enabling you to deliver targeted information based on the user's specific subscription.
To enable this feature, you'll need to:
- Configure the subscription product
- Create the Editorial Content (EC) area for the pop-up notification
Setting up the subscription product
Please refer to "How do I create a subscription product?" for instructions.
Once you have created the subscription product, tag it with Classification > Subscription Renewal Notification. The Classification tags are found in the right sidebar.
At the bottom of the product page, click on "Add A Custom Field Group."
Click on the "Select a custom field group" box and select "Subscription Renewal Notification."

Configure the notification settings:
- Omit User Types - By default, the pop-up notification will display for all purchasers. Check the relevant box(es) if you want to exclude giftees/site license users from receiving the pop-up notification.
- Subscription Renewal Notification Threshold - This number is set in days and determines how many days is left in the subscription before the pop-up notification is displayed.
- Subscription Renewal Editorial Content Name - This needs to match the name of the EC area that will drive the pop-up message. You can use an existing EC area or put in the name that you will use when creating a new EC area.
Publish and save the product.
Creating the Editorial Content (EC) area
In Editorial > Editorial Content, create a new EC area.
Configure the EC area:
- The "Internal Name" needs to be identical to the "Subscription Renewal Editorial Content Name" field in the product.
- In the "Body" field, add the content for the pop-up notification. You can include text, images, and/or links.
- All other fields should remain blank. Publish and save the EC area.
Testing the pop-up notification
To test how the pop-up notification looks, make sure the account you're testing with is subscribed to the correct subscription product. In the product set-up, you can set the "Subscription Renewal Notification Threshold" to be higher than the number of days remaining on the test subscription. For example, if your test account has 30 days remaining on the subscription, set the threshold to 31 or higher.
Log into your website using your test account. You should see the pop-up notification in the bottom-right of the screen.
