How to Show the "Last Updated" Date on Articles

By default, your articles display a publish date in the byline. You can also turn on a last updated date, so readers can see when an article was most recently revised — a best practice for content trust and E-E-A-T (Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trustworthiness).

What this feature does

When enabled, articles will show an "UPDATED: [date]" label in the byline alongside the publish date, reflecting the last time the article content was edited.

This setting is off by default. When off, only the original publish date is shown, as before.

Where it appears

Once enabled, the updated date will display on:

• Article pages (/article/:id)
• Topic pages (/topics/:id)

How to turn it on

1. Go to your System Settings.
2. Locate the setting named article.show.last.updated.
3. Change the value from False to True.
4. Save your changes.

Once saved, any article that has been edited after its original publish date will show the updated date in its byline going forward.

Turning it off

To hide the updated date and revert to showing only the publish date, set article.show.last.updated back to False.

Note: If you have article or topic templates outside of the standard /article/:id and /topics/:id pages, reach out to your account team to confirm whether the updated date will display there as well.
